The Silents two-volume set tells the story of Laurel and Hardy’s earliest years, following the films, their developing partnership and the world of the Hal Roach Studios in which that partnership took shape. Written chronologically, the books place the films within the lives and careers of Stan and Ollie, supported throughout by rare production stills, restored posters, studio material and carefully reconstructed newspaper coverage from the period.

The Sound Shorts two-volume set continues the story from 1929 to 1935, charting the years in which Laurel and Hardy became international stars and created some of their most celebrated films. The books follow their lives, working relationship and the changing Hal Roach Studios story alongside the production of each film, illustrated with rare stills, restored posters, original publicity and contemporary newspaper material.

Kickstarter successfully made the first edition of our Laurel and Hardy book collection possible. Using its trusted all-or-nothing funding system, supporters only pledge once a project launches, and payment is only collected when the funding target is successfully reached.
Our Silents edition was fully funded through Kickstarter in July 2026, allowing us to put this extraordinary two-volume set into production. As a thank-you for supporting the project from the beginning, Kickstarter backers secured their two-book set and slipcase for the special £125 launch price.
